I planted some tomatos recently. Now they have what looks like chillies growing out of them. Any ideas how this would happen? I also have potatos with tomatos growing out of them??

It is not unusual for a tomato to have a little deformity the shape of a chilli but it is just a freak event. The’ tomatoes’ you have on potatoes are the potato fruits. Potato is closely related to tomato but these little ‘potato apples’ are highly poisonous.
