I have what appears to be lichen on my Cox’s Pippin apple tree. Also some cankers (they look like hard sponges) on certain branches. I got little or no fruit last year through neglect. Is it too late to prune and feed and place a Codling Moth trap?

Lichen is only a sign of weak growth by the tree. It is not too late to prune, removing dead and diseased branches, and 1 in 3 of the older branches. Apply some fruit fertiliser. Control weeds and grass under the tree with plastic or capet. Traps give mixed results.
