hi gerry, we built a house last year now were trying to create a garden it’s quite big and i just do not know where to start. its laid to lawn with one flower bed and a beech hedge, (so far) any tips? thanks.

If this is a large site you need to think in terms of large features. Start by making a list of the things you would like to have and the uses to which you want to put the space. Then start to allocate areas to each use. Make a drawing and mark in the position of the sun at midday .. south.
On a big site, remember that lawn mowing takes a lot of time and it is generally a good idea to plant up quite a bit of space around the bouandaries with trees and shrubs that require less effort.
