A small colony of ants have appeared all over the waste matter in my compost bin; are they a threat to the process or final compost?

Ants are often attracted to sweet things in the compost heap. They are no harm but might well build a nest under the compost because of the shelter and warmth it offers. They may have to be turned out at the end of the composting process.
