Hi Gerry, Just wondering is it really possible to grow a bamboo hedge in Ireland with no wall/fence sheltering it? Was thinking of Pseudosasa japonica. Thanks ,muiris

Bamboo is more related to grass than to trees with woody stems and it sprouts from ground level, which means it broadens at ground level.
It does not make a hedge as such, but a screen that will tend to thicken in time. Excess new shoots can be chopped away.
Bamboo does not like exposure to wind and will suffer badly if it is exposedÂ
