Beech Hedge dying from top down

Beech hedge – Planted 1.5 yrs, went well for the first while but now dying back from the top down. No obvious signs of insects. No chemicals used in the area. Couldn’t be drought!?! Beside a meadow.

Beech can be tricky to establish and it the soil conditions are not suitable, they can die back. The usual problem is ground to heavy or poor drainage. Beech needs good drainage and good fertile soil … and no competition.
