Is there a bird friendly slug pellet I could use in my vegitable garden that would definately not harm birds or other animals?

Iron phosphate, also called ferric phosphate, is safe to other creatures and used in some slug pellets.
Also Nemaslug is a biological control based on nematodes and sprayed over the soil.
