Lawn is badly infected with black evil looking toadstools – afraid for small children (2) eating – how do you get rid of the toadstools /infection

These sound like inkcap toadstools.
If you are concerned about toadstools or mushrooms on a lawn, just trample them down to mush or pick and remove them when you see them.
It is a seasonal thing in late summer and autumn for soil fungi to fruit.
