Can you train a clematis to grow up a pebble dash wall? Will it grow itself or does it need supports? Drilling into pebble dash is impossible!

Clematis can be trained on a pebble dashed wall but the pebble dash is not sufficient support.
It is possible to drill pebble dash … by first knocking away the pebbles over a small area with a hammer or cold chisel and then drilling the flat surface. The area cleared need only be a few pebbles and does not affect appearance.
