Dying Rowan Tree

David Proger asked 14 years ago

I have 3 rowan trees in a hedge one of which is very healthy. The second,I believe is dead & third looks poorly(yellow leaves on some branches)The dead tree’s bark seems to have peeled off around much of the trunk and wood lice are in abundance -the outer bark has white marks on it-All 3 trees are within 50ft of each other & have been very healthy up to this year. Please advise-thanks

This could be honey fungus or bacterial canker disease, both of which are common and affect a range of trees randomly. Nothing to do but wait and see what happens and remove if it dies.

Bark usually lifts off when a tree has died and woodlice just use it for shelter.
