I have a lovely echium in a fairly sheltered part of my garden; Being a tender plant should i cover it with fleece during the winter -also there is a Japanese tree peony-will this need to be covered also.

You live in a mild area in Co. Galway and it is unlikely that an echium would need covering in an average winter.

If frost is forecast to drop below minus 5 Celsius, you could cover the echium overnight with an old blanket. The tree peony should be fine.
