I have a 150 ft long hedge, it is 15 years old and has lost almost all of its leaves, those remaining have black spots as do the new leaves starting to appear.Almost all escallonia in our area seem to look just as bad. I am considering digging it all up and replacing it with Laurel,do you think there is any point in giving it another chance or will it more than likely suffer the same fate next year ?

Escallonia leaf spot damage is widespread and compounded by frost damage. The leaf spot is worst in a wet summer and the plants will recover but will be infected again later in the year. Leave until autumn and see what happens. That’s a better time to re-plant in any case.
