I suspect that I forgot to prune my miniature rose bushes which are planted in open soil as there are not yet, at end of May, any buds appearing. Is the end of May a bad time to do a light pruning, or should I leave it until later in the season?

Miniature rose bushes need very light pruning in any case, so it is not significant that you omitted to prune on this occasion. They will flower in the normal way. They may have taken some damage from frost as miniatures are not as hardy as larger varieties.
The shoots are lightly tipped back in spring.Â
