Fruit fly infestation

Janet Webb asked 14 years ago

We have had a huge infestation of fruit flies in our raspberries is south Co. Kilkenny. They cover the fruit and make it inedible. Is there anything we can do now (for Autumn Raspberries) or can we deal with the larvae somehow in the winter months ? This is the first time ever to happen.

Fruit flies, if these are fruit flies, are generally attracted to over-ripe fruit. If you pick at the point of ripeness, there should no problem.

These could also be flies that just settle on the fruit but are not feeding. You will probably not see the problem again in future years.
