Dear Gerry, My hawthorn was grown from a cutting about 10 years ago. It lived in a large pot until 2 years ago. When I moved to Kildare I planted it in the ground. It is thriving, but it has never produced flowers, and therefore no berries.

Hawthorn, like many other trees and shrubs, goes through a juvenile stage when it grows well, making its branches, but does not flower until it does so. If it has been in a pot and therefore stunted, it tends to grow well in open soil and will come to flowering in a year or two.
