Dear Gerry, I have horse manure that’s approx 18 months old.It was kept in bags for that time. What I’m wondering is whether I can put it straight onto my raised beds.It seems quite wet and I’m not sure how to recognise if it’s ready to use?? Thanks

Horse manure will probably have rotted to an adequate extent in 18 months.
It is probably wet because no water could escape from the bags. Turn it out on the ground somewhere near the beds and allow it to drain and dry out for a time.
When it is reasonably crumbly, it can be placed on the beds.
If you put it on wet, it can be cloddy and interfere with the ease of making a seed bed for sowing.
