When was Acer platanoides introduced into Ireland? What is the best way to maintain one?

The Norway maple was probably introduced in or slightly before the seventeenth century.
It is a robust tree and needs just to be planted in reasonably good soil in adequate space and kept weed-free until it is abou ttwo metres tall. Then it will look after itself, except to cut out competing leaders and to prune some of the lower branches when it reaches about four metres.
