Gerry I have a lovely rhodo growing in a large tub and would like to plant it in the ground as it has gone too big for the pot. is it safe to do so at the moment and also have the same problem with poeny rosescheers,phyllis

A rhododendron can be planted fom a pot at any time but autumn is a good time. Rhododendrons need acidic soil and if you have limy soil, you will have to find some acidic soil … Wicklow, Wexford, Carlow … and make a raised bed of it, or peat, and mulch heavily with conifer needles.
