Medium-sized Tree, limey soil

Siobhan Galvin asked 17 years ago
Hi Gerry,We wish to plant a medium sized tree in our front garden. It is north-east facing and the soil is limey. At present we have no neighbours across the road but in time there will be houses built and the function of the tree is to provide a small degree of privacy while still letting through light. I love the japanese maple but have been told that they don’t do well in exposed conditions. We would appreciate your suggestions.

A good tree for this would be Sorbus aria ‘Lutescens’ … wind resistant with magnificent grey foliage.
