Hi Gerry..I need your advise to improve my lawn which in places is patchy and growth is not good, i put fertilizer down 10-10-20 but for the area to which growth is bad this did not work. Could you please advise if possible solutions and recomendations. For info when my top soil came i was not a good rich soil so maybe this could be one of the reasons.

Parchy growth in this case sounds like uneven soil quality. You did the right thing in giving general fertilizer, such as 10-10-20, which is not a normal lawn fertilizer for general use, but ideal for the problem of poor growth due to poor soil.

Feed the patchy areas again and give the entire lawn a high-nitrogen feed, such as lawn fertlizer, or sulpahte of ammonia or similar. You might also drive a fork down deep as possible in the affected areas and lean it back gently to very slightly open the soil and let some oxygen down to encourage root activity.

Apply 10-10-20 at 20 grams per square metre again to the patchy areas in spring for the next two springs.
