as my cabbages etc are now maturing nicely is it safe to remove the netting covering the plants or are they still at risk?

Brassicas are more prone to pigeon damage when they are small adn usually when taller than the pigeons they leave them alone as they cannot see predators such as cats.
But if they are hungry enough, as in winter, they might take the risk.
