Could you please suggest a shrub for a large terracotta container on an elevated exposed site facing west close to the sea in the west of Ireland?

Easily the best plant for this would not be a shrub as such but the large shrub-like strap-leaved phormium. It is supremely wind-resistant and evergreen, staying the same year-round.
