We have recently reclaimed an area of ground along side an existing native hedge. Basically it was a very wet area so we put in drainage covered over with stones and them top soil on top. I would love to plant up a woodland area with a winding path running down its length but have no idea where to start. Weeds are spreading rapidly, its clay soil and quite a shady area?

You could consider planting a garden woodland, leaving a path through it.
Control weeds with Roundup and plant whips in November. Alder would be good in a damp area.
