plum tree

Geoffrey Porter asked 12 years ago

The attached pictures show the condition of a plum tree in my garden. Where the branch broke off, the exposed wood is soft. Also, there appears to be wood worm. Can the tree be saved? Can you let me know please. Thanks, Geoff

The branch was probably cut off or broke off some years ago and the snag left has since rotted. If a rot or fungus has not got in by now, the tree will have sealed off the damaged area long ago. There is nothing to do, the wood worm are just tidying up the dead wood and do not invade living wood.
