Is there any practical gardening use for turf ash from the firegrate, please? Surely it would be ‘biodegradable’.

Turf ash can be spread over the soil in any part of the garden, but it has almost no plant nutrients and no beneficial effect on soil structure. 

It does no harm and does no good.
