Problem with Rosemary

Bill Tinley asked 15 years ago

I planted a rosemary last autumn and it seemed to be thriving, but has died, possibly due to the cold weather. I dug it up today to dispose of it and discovered an abundance of yellow balls, about the size of coriander seeds, in the rootball. I squeezed a few and they burst, the insides a bit like dandelion milk. What are they?

These could be fertiliser granules, slow release with a resin coating or they could be snail eggs. Both can have milky fluid inside but the fertiliser granules are more crispy.
