I would like to prune two or three branches off my coral bark acer senkaki, which is about 14 years old. Is this a good time of year to do this, or is there a danger of the sap bleeding?
Acers tend to ‘bleed’ sap when pruned in spring but this does not seem to cause any great problem. In theory, some energy is lost and occasionally fungi grow on the lost sap.
