pyracantha

philip mullen asked 16 years ago

I cut back a clematis which had taken over a back wall in my mothers garden to reveal a pyracantha growing at each end of the wall, there were very little leaves or berries left only a lot of wood. can this be cut back tight now to bring it on for next year. Thanks Philip

Clematis can grow over other shrubs and weaken them. These pyracantha plants will recover considerably now that light is reaching them. You can cut back to tidy them up but they need to re-make their growth, so do not cut back too hard. Remember too that the clematis is likely to grow over them again, unless it is pruned back, or removed. Pyracantha can be cut back anytime before March.
