I have a rat in the compost bin. Can I use the compost or should I destroy it?

Rats are attracted to compost heaps occasionally if there are bits of cooked scraps or vegetable scraps. It is not necessary to dispose of the compost. Set some rat bait and allow the compost to continue to break down normally. Subsequently, spread it around fruit trees or shrubs or dig it in in a flower bed. You may not want to use it on a vegetable area. The normal decomposition will take place. As an added precaution, do not handle the compost, use a fork or spade to move it.
