Rhubarb was growing o.k. Put organic compost around it 2 weeks ago and the leaves are turning yellow and stems are withering

There must have been something wrong with the ‘organic compost’ … contamination with weedkiller perhaps, or something else was applied to the rhubarb.
Drought can cause yellowing and withering but there has been plenty of rain in recent weeks.Â
