Would you plant Alder , willow or Birch to form the best hedge/screen in a wet/ boggy area at the back of my site approx 100 ft from the house?Would the trees go bare at the bottom ?I really want to form a hedge/screen there eventually. Have you any other ideas? The ground is very wet during winter and dries out during the summer.

Alder, willow and silver birch could be planted in heavy ground. The birch not in the wettest spots but near the margin. You could mix the three species, having mostly birch.
These trees will tend to stay furnished with low branches once there is sunlight falling on them. Willow could be cut back to ground level every few years to give a bushy appearance.
