sea facing border planting

Kevyn Murphy asked 10 years ago

I’m looking for advice on what type of plants I should plant in my border. It’s facing the sea, about 100 meters away! and Easterly in direction, so exposed to all manner of breezes and gales. I am thinking about heather, saxifraga, aubretia at the very edge and at the back some erysimum, hoping to have these in over the weekend. and filling the space between with pansy and viola. But what do I do in the summer?? and are these plants going to survive the sea and wind??

All depends on the space available but there are lots of plants for seaside, such as phormium, hebe, crocosmia, Shasta daisy, agapanthus, geranium, kniphofia and others. Visit local garden centres and buy a few things several times during the year to get a spread of flowering. Also look to see what is growing in neighbouring gardens.
