This year I had a poorish crop of summer raspberries. The canes for next year look small but to my surprise some of them have just fruited with good size fruits. Any ideas or suggestions?

It is not unusual for small canes produced this year to carry some fruit, This can be triggered by stop-start weather.
Pick the fruit as it ripens, retain the largest canes for next year and cut away the smaller ones that have fruit both in summer and later.
