Hi Gerry, I’m sure this is a straight forward question but your help would be appreciated. What would you advise to plant in a bed of about 25m x 1m in lenght. We would be looking for plants to provide privacy (division between neighbour) but not to grow out of control and provide colour throughout most of the year. We would also be looking at staggering levels of height to break up the eye line.Appreciate your assistance. Michael

Although 25 metres long, the relatively narrow width of the border means that most shrubs will want to grow wider. Also you need some height to provide screening.Â
The choice also depends on the soil … you can grown camellias and pieris on acid soil
You will probably have to do some pruning to keep shrubs narrow but not for the initial years. Among those that you could have a look at would be: viburnum, aucuba, bamboo, Hebe salicifolia, eleagnus, abutilon, ceanothus, itea, forsythia and mahonia.
