slugs are eating my blackcurrant buds i dont want to use chemicals what can i do?

These are probably snails, with a shell, more than slugs and they sometimes climb, especially in wet weather. You might be able to find them on the plant sheltering and they can be removed. The level of damge caused is generally very slight.
