My carrots all have huge leafy healthy-looking tops but make very small roots. What am I doing wrong?

If the carrot plnats have finsihed growing, the reason ofr big tops and small roots is unbalanced nutrient levels in the soil … too much nitrogen and too little phosphorus and potash. Adjust the levels in autumn or by using fertilisers high in P and K and with no nitrogen.Â
Nitrogen tends to wash out as organic material breaks down.
