After cutting down hedge and turning it into woodchip I was just wondering is it a good idea to use this fresh wood chip, under a new Laurel hedge where the old hedge existed, for the purpose of weed control?

Shredded branches can be used as a mulch. It is not long-lasting but can help to eep down weeds for a year or two.
