weed suppresion

fons jaspers asked 16 years ago

Gerry, part of my grassland is a donkey paddock. Last year the amount of weeds, buttercup mainly, has increased phenomenally. What would be the most effective strategy for suppressing the b.cups: cutting grass AND weeds, or let the grass (and the weeds?) grow so that grass might smother the weeds?

Horses or donkeys make grass area very weedy. Buttercups tolerate mowing and allowing the grass to grow will not help control.

Apply a lawn weedkiller, or similar product for a large area, in April or May. The animals must be kept off until the dying buttercups are gone.
