We had our lawn sown in May and it still has not completely filled it yet and seems very weedy. Is it too early to use lawn weedkiller and should we give it a feed or will that spread the weeds further?

The weeds are there because the grass is weak. Feed in September with an autumn lawn feed, or a low-nitrogen farm fertiliser such as 10-10-20.
If it is still weedy in spring, you can use a lawn weedkiller, unless you want to encourage wild flowers.
