My lawn has yellow patches and when cutting patches are coming up, have looked at the soil and think we have chafer grubs. What can we do?Mary

Chafer grubs certainly feed in lawns sometimes, but usually fairly deep in the soil. It is more likely that you have leatherjackets. These are smaller and dark brown.

These feed near the surface and can cause yellow patches. Usually, birds, such as crows, discover these and clear them up. You can encourage the grubs to come near the surface by laying out black plastic for a day or so and removing  it  early  in the day to allow birds to feed.

There are no other treatments available to home gardeners.
