Yellowing on rhododendron stems

shazz samsudin asked 15 years ago

I’ve asked a question about budblight on rhododendron previously. I’m also noticing that the lower part of the same plant (stem/bark) is turning yellow and brown. I’ve seen some vine weevil grubs in my lawn previously, and now I’m worried if this yellowing could be from vine weevils. I’m new to planting rhododendrons, so I’m not sure what ‘normal’ appearance is.

That looks perfectly normal…the bark darkens as it ages. This varies between different species but most follow that pattern.
